"Northlanders" and "With Great Power..." - A Review

On Aug 6, 2008 12:00 PM

@SixGun - Correct me if I'm wrong, but the first arc of Northlanders took place on the Orkney Islands - Scotland is not exactly Scandanavia - However, I am genuinely curious as my Anglo-Saxon/ Pre-Anglo British history knowledge is certainly lacking - Would the characters in Northlanders actually be Vikings?  I keep hearing that this is a Viking book, but aren't these people the pre-vikin...

My First Shop: West Side Comics

On Aug 6, 2008 9:00 AM

Outstanding bit of nostalgia, Conor - Wonderful. Growing up in a small town in North Dakota, we had no newstands or comic shops.  I remember going to Bob's Super Value with my mom when I was about five and staring at a spinner rack and begging her to buy me a comic - she allowed me one and I got an issue of Peter Parker the Spectacular Spider-Man that had Kraven in it.  I also remem...

DC & Marvel: What's the Difference?

On Jun 25, 2008 11:43 PM

Interesting topic.  Interesting thoughts.  I was talking to a good friend of mine about this topic a while back as he has always been more of a Marvel guy while I have leaned DC.  We found that it is really very hard to actually articulate 1) What the tangble differences are between the two companies and 2) Why we have always gravitated one way or the other.  Whatever was in...

06.22.2008 - Episode #138 - Scalped #18

Ron, you've chosen some great musical picks over the course of the podcast - Jawbreaker comes immediately to mind - but you've outdone yourself with the Wedding Present.  Well Done! (my apologies to Conor or Josh if it was actually their choice...)

05.14.2008 - Captain Britain and MI:13 #1

I second Julian's sentiment - I read Cap Britain and Batman and - for me - Batman was the hands down Pick of the Week.  Just sayin'.

Something... something... Grant Morrison! New Comics for 05/07/08!

On May 5, 2008 4:48 PM

Excited for Detective Comics - Rann Thanagar, and Secret Invasion to a lesser degree.  Wasn't going to read Fraction's Iron Man but have decided to get on board.  You only live once or so. BQ: Root Beer (or any other kind of soda) Floats.  I'm disgusted just thinking about them.

This is hands down may favorite cover of the year thus far.  Why? I don't know. Like some far-too-clever chum once said, "Writing about art is like dancing about architecture" (or something like that {who can remember?})

04.16.2008 - Hellblazer #243

On Apr 16, 2008 9:03 PM

This was a fun issue - can't wait to see how it ends.  I love all the Stigmata/DaVinci Code/Malachi Martin stuff anyways, so I was bound to dig this - Put a J.C. spin on some Vatican esoterism and you have a winner kiddies!

New comics for 04/16/08 are running on empty!

On Apr 14, 2008 12:20 PM

I've been loving Hellblazer and it is the book I'm most looking forward to.  Believe it or not, I'm also looking forward to the last few issues of Countdown (and I don't mean that sarcastically.) Of course it hasn't been the greatest thing ever, but I love the idea of the weekly book, and Countdown has been good enough.  Not a ringing endorsement I realize - but this is just comics af...
