10.19.2008 - Episode #155: Final Crisis: Rogues' Revenge #3

On Oct 18, 2008 5:07 PM

Hi Guys, RE: Captain Britain & MI13 - And Spitfire. Spitfire first appeared in the Invaders series from Marvel in the mid 70s. In her very first appearance she was bitten by a vampire. A close relative no less. Jacqueline is part of the Falsworth-Crichton family. In Marvel terms they're kind of Britain's first superhero family. She is related to both of the first two incarnations of Unio...

Alan Moore on Watchmen Movie

On Oct 2, 2008 4:29 PM

It's interesting reading this, this morning. This weekend I was the Birmingham International Comics Show, here in Britain, listening to Dave Gibbons talking positively about the film, and his book Watching The Watchmen. I suspect that the key difference here is that they have gone into a huge amount of detail in reproducing what Dave originally drew. It's pleasing for him to see that time and...

iFanboy Video Programming Update

On Sep 28, 2008 5:50 PM

Any chance we Brits can support through Amazon.co.uk? I guess it's understandable. Those shows must've been busting you guys, time-wise. Kinda sad to see them go, but at least you'll have the time to build up the main videocast.

09.21.2008 - Episode #151: Echo #6

On Sep 21, 2008 5:01 AM

Been a bit behind on the podcasts. Only heard this one last night. As a fellow Brit I can understand Sonia's dislike of the general way British characters are often portrayed in comics (And Marvel in particular). If you read those early Captain Britain issues by Claremont, Trimpe and later Gary Friedrich there really is a fundamental lack of understanding over what Britain is like. This kind ...

Watchmen Movie Trailer - This is really happening

On Jul 17, 2008 4:51 PM

You can also find a fairly sharp version at: http://www.empireonline.com/video/watchmen/ I have to say that it's a pretty impressive little trailer. A lot of those shot seem pretty faithful, like the riot sequence or Manhattan's crystal palace on Mars. And while this is probably unfinished CG Manhattan himself looks pretty good, as does the movement on Rorschach's mask (Even if we only...

The Complete Alan Moore WildC.A.T.s

On Jun 1, 2008 3:31 PM

You know what's daft? Back in December I picked this volume up in a 3 for 2 deal at Waterstones (The biggest bookstore chain in the UK) along with Strontium Dog: Search and Destroy Files Volume One and League of Extraordinary Gentlemen: Volume Two. It has sat at the midpoint of my trade stack since then. I think it's about time that I picked it up and read it.

05.18.08 - Episode #133 - Captain Britain and MI:13 #1

On May 18, 2008 5:28 PM

@ ohcaroline Yes, this is an ongoing. When Marvel announced Cornell writing an ongoing for them, last year, the title was going to be another relaunch of Excalibur. But the powers that be wisely decided that they would leave that brand name alone for a while, and create a book around Cap and Cornell's MI:13. from the Wisdom limited series he did last year. It seems to work.

05.14.2008 - Captain Britain and MI:13 #1

On May 14, 2008 4:13 PM

@Conor: John the Skrull and Captain Midlands both appeared in Cornell's Wisdom MAX series last year. John turns up there, and it is explained that he was part of a failed four man covert invasion the Skrulls attempted back in the 60s, attempting to replace The Beatles. There's some brilliant glimpses of that past, including conflict with the group, when John turned up with a Kree Yoko Ono. :...

New Comics for 05/14/08 are really quite jet-lagged!

On May 12, 2008 4:29 PM

Captain Britain & MI:13 is the big one for me, this month - let alone week. The preview pages doing the rounds online look outstanding. Leonard Kirk's artwork is sound and Cornell is giving the Invasion a real sense of relevency on the British side of the Atlantic. Strong cast, too.

5 Artists Who Aren't For Me

On Apr 29, 2008 11:51 AM

Hmmmm. I mostly agree with those. Not so sure about Fabry, though. I think he does do a great cover. But yeah, his interiors are not so strong. I didn't like his Neverwhere art - but more so because the characters looked too far remodelled from the TV series. Very much with you on Lee. My own personal list of Artists I don't get would have to include Scott Kollins. I just don't get the appea...
