Enough with the fighting already!

On Sep 30, 2009 4:00 PM

The flipside to this problem is when someone shows up on the last page, as a cliffhanger. Nine times out of ten, it's not a character who's there to bring new information, or move the plot forward, or have an emotional impact on the characters. It's just, "Check out who they're going to fight in the next issue!" Sorry, but when I reach the end of a dissapointing superhero book fille...

Review: Locke and Key: Head Games

On Sep 29, 2009 2:00 PM

I picked up the first trade of Locke & Key a few weeks ago. For some reason, I'd thought this was a limited series, rather than a Hellboy/Umbrella Academy-style quasi-ongoing, and I was very happy to discover my error. What I love about this series is that the conceit of having multiple mystical keys allows Joe Hill to keep layering on new elements and new ideas, making the world increasi...

Moore Takes a Step Too Far

On Sep 24, 2009 3:00 AM

Wait a second ... so Alan Moore is a literary genius ... and is also kind of an asshole? Wow, that's never happened before. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm off to read Norman Mailer, Ernest Hemingway, Jonathan Franzen, Truman Capote, JD Salinger, Gore Vidal,  and on and on and on ...

DON'T MISS: Sweet Tooth #1

On Sep 1, 2009 8:48 AM

I added this to my DCBS order after listening to Jeff Lemire's interview on Wordballoon. DCBS often sells first issues for 25 percent of the cover price. Add that to Vertigo's $1 price point, and I'm getting this comic for a quarter. A stinkin' QUARTER! (End shameless plug of iFanboy sponsor)

08.26.2009 - Batman & Robin #3

On Aug 26, 2009 5:17 PM

@paulmontgomery: " Pyg makes the Joker look well adjusted." Thread comment of the week! And oh so true. Though the dancing did seem to tip him a bit too much toward "comical" and away from "creepy." That'd be my only quibble with this issue.

Talksplode #14 with Rick Remender - writer of Fear Agent, The Punisher and Dr. Voodoo

On Aug 26, 2009 1:33 AM

Conor wrote: " Number one is listed at $3.99, but number two is solicited at $2.99." So to recap ... 1. Marvel believed in Rick Remender enough to sign him to an exclusive contract. Presumably, they want him to bring his creator-owned audience over to Marvel, but also build up a following with the existing Marvel fanbase. 2. Doctor Voodoo is (I think) the first time Rick Remende...

"Marvelman belongs to Marvel."

If Neil Gaiman isn't interested in working with them on this, I'd love to see them go with Paul Cornell.
