Name: Mike Romo

hi!

I'm Mike Romo, I'm an actor in LA (well, I audition a lot in LA) who also works in the software industry--I'm a product manager at Symantec, I do all of the Mac products.

Let's see...born in San Francisco, moved to New York after college, and then moved here, acting all the while...got back into comics around 2000, after I picked up the Batman: 10¢ Adventure.  Went in intending to spend ten cents, came out spending $30 and the rest is history.

I write a weekly article for the site, which come out Wednesdays, and when I can, I contribute to the video show when they do convention specials.  Like the other writers, I appear in the audio show when one of the guys can't make it.

That's about it! I can be reached at mike@ifanboy.com, you can also follow me on twitter--I'm rikemomo.

What's in a Moment?

On Mar 4, 2010 9:00 AM

hey guys-- Thanks for the comments. I will admit, I was running around in circles a bit with this article and ended up writing it in chunks, then moving stuff around, so it's a bit disjointed, to the point that I literally just added a paragraph about missed opportunities for these kinds of moments.  It's up there now. Hope you're having a good day! thanks for reading. =mike

Writing on Writing

Wow, thanks for the comments, guys!  @pdallor - what a great exercise, creating one page comics.  It reminds me of an acting exercise that my old old old school acting teacher told me about where you would rehearse a scene by entering on each line.  Each line would be the first line of the scene, just for fun. This totally changes the impact of the line, totally focuses the inte...

Mobile Comics Done Right - Panelfly

On Feb 11, 2010 5:14 PM

@TNC - I should have made it clear--I haven't really been aware of the other apps that are out there, so this is less a comparative analysis and more just a "hey, I saw this, and thought I would share".  Like you, I am not really the target market for this sort of thing, and, as I mentioned, I really do feel that this just represents baby steps towards digital delivery/viewing o...

Some Endings, More Beginnings

On Feb 11, 2010 12:00 PM

@tork and @conor -- I wil lreread... I guess I totally, completely and utterly forgot what happened in the previous issue of Batman and Robin. Again, one thing Marvel does great is those recap pages. I think what DC should do is have a link on the front page of their comics that points to a specific anchor on webpage of recaps. They should make buying lots of comics easier...

100% Heavy Liquid - Pondering Paul Pope

On Feb 4, 2010 9:00 AM

Oh, thanks for these comments, folks. I really appreciate it.  When discussing books like these, I find myself wondering if I should even attempt it, you know? Because each work can be dissected like crazy--I could have written a book that covered each aspect in detail (art, story, theme, characters, production, etc) and found myself writing a paragraph then deleting it, the restarting, t...

Age and Comics

On Jan 21, 2010 9:00 AM

hi guys! Wow, such thoughtful comments--I am glad you guys could relate...it's just interesting, how our relationship to comics, books, TV shows, movie..all kinds of media, really, changes as one gets older.  @Jesse1125--I had one of those Evel Keneval wind up cycles...LOVED that toy! Happy late birthday, @Neb! I trip out all the time as I think about my younger brother going through sch...

Pick of the Week - 01.20.2010 - Power Girl #8

On Jan 20, 2010 7:01 PM

hey guys-- I picked this up and you all are right--Amanda Connor's art is fantastic! I really, really, really liked this issue. Cheesecake is probably in the eye of the beholder, but the term comes to mind if I see: - more than a few shots of some girl bending over for no particuarly good reason - one pagers that seem more pinups than anything else - singleminded obsession with taking sho...
