08.26.2009 - Batman & Robin #3

On Aug 26, 2009 5:17 PM

Wow. This was and was not a surprise choice for this week. I should've known that Conor would've picked this, but I have to say that, for me it was a close call between this and FF #570 and FF won out strictly based upon what Jonathan Hickman is doing with the characterizations of the Reed family as contrasted to what the Wizard is doing in this arc. It was really close though and I'm sad to ...

Kieron Gillen on Thor

On Aug 17, 2009 6:25 PM

I think Bullet Points and Thor are the only JMS Marvel books I've ever liked. So, I'm sad to see him go, but I am happy to see Gillen come on the book. Then, I'm sad again because Billy Tan is drawing the interiors. Oh, look. Olivier Coipel covers. Pretty. Only variants? Awww. This rollercoaster is tiring me out.   Oh, and am I the only one that notices Thors armor looks kinda like ...

Keep That Slump Coming

On Aug 17, 2009 11:30 AM

I guess I don't read the interwebs that much because i didn't hear that mArvel was ina creative slump at all. All the books you mentioned above are worth mentioning for one reason: they're all AWESOME. Maybe it's because, in my opinion, that DC is riding high with Blackest Night finally out and the Bat-books getting a lot of praise for a how well they've come together quality-wise lately. Or t...

MAY....hem? MAYHEM's Marketing Guy Quits Admidst Controversy

On Aug 14, 2009 2:02 PM

I think the gist of the Brian Hibbs thing is that he posted some very practical comments as a comic book retailer about his lack of hope for a comic book like Mayhem. He was then summarily labelled a "hater" for it. I think his comments and subsequent analysis after the fact was very much what a businessperson should have done in his position. I think most fans don't realize what goe...

Schools of comic book art: Unconventional artists

On Aug 6, 2009 3:00 PM

Love this article. I'd put Chris Ware and Tony Millionaire in this category as well. I think those guys have really tried in their own ways to push the medium of comics without taking it completely out of the realm altogether. Plus, their work is awesome. I've been a big fan of Kyle Baker since The Shadow and Dick Tracy, but wasn't as a big a fan of his Plastic Man. I always thought the charm...

08.05.2009 - Chew #3

On Aug 6, 2009 2:14 AM

Fully agree with the review Conor. I am thoroughly enjoying the book and think it just keeps getting better with every issue. I like the ideas being but forth here. It reminds me of when I first started reading scifi literature and being wowed by all the cool ideas i was reading. Also, I was laughing because there are definitely some critics whose columns literally make me wanna throw up afte...

Here We Go Again: San Diego Comic-Con 2009 Report

On Jul 28, 2009 9:13 AM

Great article Ron. I agree with most of your thoughts here. Especially the idea that Hollywood's intrusion into Comic-Con may not be the worst thing in the world. But, I did giggle everytime I saw a "Twilight ruined Comic-Con" sign though. Tyrese wa really working it this year. I was right across the way from him the whole time and it was complete chaos, but in a good way. Not just ...

07.12.2009 - Episode #192 - Wednesday Comics #1

On Jul 12, 2009 3:45 PM

Arthur from Maine veered very close to Aussie accent territory in the opening, but awesome comeback. I want me some cod now. Wednesday Comics is the best time I've had reading a comics in a LONG time. Even Batman and Robin pales in comparison to the talent brought to the table here. I am surprised nobody mentioned Lee Bermejo by name. Artwise I think that was probably my second favorite next ...

Ryan Reynolds is Green Lantern

On Jul 10, 2009 11:45 PM

Just saw this and the two pics side by side of Ryan Reynolds and Hal Jordan convinces me that he would look awesome in the green. I mean that chin and the cheekbones are dead on. Oh, and he's a fantastic actor too. Did you see Van Wilder?
