Name: Martin Gray

I'm a journalist in Edinburgh and fond of police procedural telly, biscuits and musicals. I know far more than any decent person should about My Little Pony, having spent years editing British comic books about them; thankfully I also got to edit reprint titles for such folk as Batman and Superman. And the best bit of that? Chatting to the readers in lettercols - no pleasure in life equals being italicised.

Action Comics: Now with NO Superman!

On Nov 18, 2008 10:44 AM

@Tiki - please God they don't make Superman an adjunct of Green Lantern. He's his own character and shouldn't be chained to someone else's event. As for a Metropolis slant on Action Comics, Agent Liberty, Gangbuster, Vigilante and Guardian are hardly marquee names, and they're all street-level. Where's the variety?  Now, if they put Sindbad in there. And Yellow Peri . . .

11.16.2008 - Episode #159: Detective Comics #850

On Nov 16, 2008 6:28 PM

Loved the show, apart from the mention of sports. Sports. Bah. Anyway, I think it was the excellent Conor who mentioned that Bette Kane/Flamebird had been on the dark side at one point. Did I miss something? I remember her being an irritant with her Dick worship, but always trying to do good.

The iFanboy Letter Column - 11/14/08!

On Nov 14, 2008 4:00 PM

I loved the Strazewski-Parobeck  JSA, everything from the logo onwards was just so darn charming. I then enjoyed the Robinson etc JSA, lots of fun stuff going on there. And the current series started well, but I'm just plain Gog-bored. @win - thanks for the Chabon reminder, I couldn't for the life of me remember him being a JSA writer.

Ron Rant: Reunite Dazzler and Longshot!

On Nov 12, 2008 9:03 AM

For me, when Longshot (that final vowel is wrong, surely?) and Dazzler were together was when the X-Men went bad. Wasn't it during the Australian period? Awful stuff, stuck in Oz, thought dead, invisible to cameras, with no one decent to fight and nothing to wear. Don't get me wrong, I love Dazzler, but not as an X-Man; I admired that when she debuted she chose to go her own way. As Sigrid say...

I packed in DD cos I couldn't put up with him anymore. I dumped Matt Murdock.  But yeah, Thor by Alan Davis is the bee's knees.

10.19.2008 - Episode #155: Final Crisis: Rogues' Revenge #3

On Oct 18, 2008 5:07 PM

@Maundy - y ou seem to be ignoring, or not getting, the fact that everyone's experience of reading a comic isn't the same. For you, the individual issues of RASL are worth the wait, for others they're not satisfying as drawn-out, speedy reads, but they would likely enjoy the story in a big lump. That's it, there's no point arguing personal taste. @ Josh - the Briddish accent w...

10.15.08 - Final Crisis: Rogue's Revenge #3

On Oct 15, 2008 11:10 PM

Enjoyed that Ron, thanks. But what are you referring to when you say: 'Almost in one panel, one word balloon, he was able to erase the past 2 years of wrongness within the Rogues and bring them back to where they should be' I can't hold things in my memory the way I could . . . Anyway, I've rambled on about this in the review section - great series, but I had the odd problem.

Guy and Ice have been dating for 20 years? Good Lord, that's disgusting - she was comics-dead for about 15 of 'em.

Jezebel Jet is black? I just thought she was a model with bronzer. I don't think 'd have noticed Lily in Spider-Man was African-American, either, had they not introduced her father. Regarding the Supergirl chat, do we know she's going to be working at the Planet, as was said? I know Lana is, but Linda? Maybe I missed an interview.

Alan Moore on Watchmen Movie

On Oct 2, 2008 4:29 PM

I'm with chlop, the QPAW podcast 50 is well worth a listen - as well as the Watchmen review (I don't think it's a pisstake, it's one reader's opinion, made all the funnier by his knowing delivery), it has a great 'at home with Alan Moore' sequence and 'Mr and Mrs Stan Lee go shopping'.   http://panelologists.com/ As for Watchmen, I'm glad the pirate stuff is out of the film; didn't Len...
