Avoiding Closure: My unread copy of Planetary #27

Really great article Sonia.  I have to say that managing expectations for things that we really want is difficult.  At times we get ourselves so worked up about something be it a movie, book, television show that even if it is really good it somehow disappoints us because of how hyped up we have gotten about it.  I know this sounds sad and contrary to a fan mentality but it is&n...

Talking About Talking

Mike I enjoyed reading your article as well as many of the comments. I have only read the first Starman Omnibus and I recall it taking awhile to read but I wouldn't call my experience with it a slog.  I thought the stories were good and entertaining.  It felt like James Robinson was trying on a new pair of shoes and he was walking around to break them in and get a feel for the charac...

Book Adoration

I've never bought any of the Absolute Editions.  For most of them I already have a collected hardcover or trade and I really don't like buying repeat editions.  I find that most of the Omnibi that I do have are pretty manageable.  The Starman editions are very manageable and i would agree that the Jeff Lemire Essex County and Local Deluxe HC are an excellent size and managea...

Can I Afford Comics?

On Oct 14, 2009 12:00 PM

Astonishing X-Men Motion Comic - Episode 1 Trailer

On Sep 30, 2009 12:01 PM

I'm of the mind that you should either just animate or read the comic.  This sort of in between medium seems kind of silly.  I think it is an interesting take but basically falls flat compared to the reading experience.

I Hate the Term "Comic Book Movie"

On Sep 15, 2009 8:00 AM

I think what most people mean when they say "comic book movie", is super-hero movie.  I think the general public has no idea how many movies are actually based on comic books or graphic novels unless it is a major part of the marketing.  I have had discussions with friends on several occasions about various movies based on comics and they had no idea what the source mat...

Tickled to Death

I love my DVR if for no other reason that by skipping commercials I can watch more TV in the same amount of time.  I stopped buying DVD's other than movies for my kids because I can't remember the last time I watched any of the hundreds I already own because I am watcing whatever came in the mail on the NetFlix or that I recorded on the DVR.  I started trade waiting because I couldn'...
