The Picks of the Week of 2009 - By The Numbers!
On Jan 5, 2010 9:00 AMThis is always one of my favorite posts of the year. How about seeing the numbers for user POWs?
Go to CommentThe Whole Movie Thing Didn't Work. And I'm OK With That.
On Jul 7, 2008 11:13 PMI just posted an essay along the same lines... and I completely agree. The conclusion that I've come to is that the comics industry will never entice an audience who doesn't embrace the classic art forms. Millions of people go to the movies, but the book industry is slowing shrinking. And you read comics, you don't view them. The majority of people just don't read. ...
Go to CommentSecret Indebting - How and Why I Drop Comic Books
On Jun 3, 2008 9:00 AMRon - Really great thoughts! My issue with reading bad comics is that if everyone reads bad comics, then the companies are going to start making them. There's no consumer backlash for creating a bad book if you read it just because you love the character. The same thing is true in movies. That's why they keep making crappy ones, but I go see movies that I know are going to be ba...

On May 4, 2008 6:28 PMAlexG - Thank you! I'm glad I wasn't the only one who felt this way. Mario - You are correct, but I was expecting this issue to be a "catch up" for Final Crisis, and it wasn't. I did pick up Secret Invasion and enjoyed it, even though I'm not deep in the Marvel U, so hopefully Final Crisis will be the same. Conor - You are correct. It didn't live up to my ...
Go to CommentMAJOR SPOILERS About Comics in the Mainstream Media Today
On Apr 30, 2008 9:49 AMI don't read the spiderman books or the flash (or much dc at all, really). So, from my perspective, both of these news bits were "meh." There's already a Flash, so it's not like they are bringing back "the Flash." Just one of the Flashes. I don't know this Flash, so why should that be interesting to me? I guess it just doesn't seem like a news bit ...

Go to CommentCaptain Planet - HELP?!?!
On Apr 25, 2008 12:35 AMMy favorite bit about what to do with old comics comes from, I believe, Joe Quesada - He said that when he finishes a comic, he just leaves it wherever he is. On the train, in the waiting room, on the bench, at the airport... wherever he is when he finishes the book, he leaves it. This provides the opportunity for those who may never pick up a comic to pick one up and flip through ...
Go to Comment2008 Eisner Awards Nominations!
On Apr 14, 2008 12:04 PMThere are some fantastic nominations on here. This is the first Eisner's I've ever really paid attention to and I'm excited. Question: Both mainstream and indie books are well represented but why is no Manga represented on the list? Those are, indeed, comic books, right? I can understand ths divide in an opinion-oriented site like iFanboy, but the Eisner's are suppose to re...

On Apr 11, 2008 12:15 AMJosh, your thoughts on trimming down DC & Marvel are great. It would be an industry driven by story, not by sales... (which is why it will never happen.) I would also like to see a line (like All Star or Ultimate) where they don't just create a new continuity, but where there is no continuity. A line where creators can come in and do whatever they want with a character....
Go to CommentTeam or Player?
On Apr 10, 2008 9:50 AMIt's true that there is no wrong or right way to collect comics. It's all what you feel like doing. However, the idea of "following the player" is something most people are used to. You might read everything by Stephen King. If someone writes a sequel to a Stephen King book, you may not buy it... because it's not King. And sometimes his books aren't good, but...
