Diabhol

Name: Marshall Foster

A Los Angeles native of three decades, Marshall is an unrepentant (and often foul-mouthed) Marvel Zombie and his weekly pull list proves it. Release schedules permitting, he buys twenty ongoing Marvel titles a month and regularly buys more than half of whatever Big Event mini-series books are available. He likes creators, but primarily follows characters. In his own words, "I am what's wrong with comics today."

He does buy a few non-Marvel books, though. These include Angel: After The Fall, The Astonishing Wolf-Man, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Echo, and Phantom.

Marshall is one of the many users here that returned to comics after a long absence and is happy that he did; all it took was regular employment and Civil War. His other geek interests to include RPG's, but doesn't really include video games (though he will destroy you on WWF No Mercy for the N64). Marshall enjoys playing sports more than watching sports, but he does root for L.A. in whatever sport happens to be on television (except football, where he inexplicably roots for The Saints). Other interests include copious amounts of television, a reasonable amount of movies (with the annoying habit of near-constant quotation), and a refined diet of novels and short fiction. None of these prevent him from going to clubs, munches, Las Vegas, Disneyland or Burning Man.

Regardless of whether he shares a bed with a woman at any given time, he's always sharing it with his iPod and cell phone.

Comic Shots #11 with Chris Neseman: Hawaiian Dick

On Oct 9, 2008 4:00 PM

Ok, ok...after countless talks with and about B. Clay Moore, I'm officially sold on the book. I'll add it to the "Gotta Read" stack. As for the drink, I was considering switching out the coconut rum for regular (or mango) rum, but it looks like there's more than enough pineapple juice there to compensate. I look forward to trying this drink.

Don't like "filler"? Then you probably don't like comics

On Oct 8, 2008 9:00 AM

None of those things you mentioned are what I would ever call "filler." In fact, generally, comics today have almost no filler by my standards. Filler issues have fights with no stakes, they don't have character development or quiet moments. Very often, they are "flashback" issues that interrupt a story and don't give us *anything* because they only exist because someone m...

Overall, I agree. Personally, I would add: The past should be respected and admired, but on the whole, the future is better.

The iFanboy Letter Column - 10/03/08!

On Oct 3, 2008 4:00 PM

Ok, I like both Teen Wolf and Burglar. As for Thor vs. Superman, Thor is unquestionably magic, so he wins. As for Superman vs. Hulk, all Clark has to do is simply drop the Hulk off on another planet. He can't kill the Hulk (essentially nothing can), but he can certainly get rid of him and basically win the fight. And good riddance!

It's October...

I generally don't do costumes, 'cause they're a lot of work and I tend to look stupid. But yeah, I expect an army of Jokers on the streets this year...

I thought the V for Vendetta movie was better than the comic, personally.

iFanboy vs. iFanboy: The Graysons

On Oct 1, 2008 7:00 PM

* A Dick Grayson series doesn't work for exactly the same reason a Bruce Wayne series doesn't work. No powers, no costume, no reason to give a damn. * "Dick" is a terrible (nick)name. I don't care if it was acceptable in previous years. What the hell's wrong with Rich or Rick? Nothing at all. There's a difference between manufactured hipness and plain good taste. :) (Though I'll n...

To the box or recycle bin?

On Oct 1, 2008 9:00 AM

If you've got the patience, you can torrent a *lot* of old Marvel and DC comics. That's probably the main reason I don't buy back issues anymore, even though I prefer physical copies of books in general. But yeah, the issues are starting to pile up. I'd replace my entire collection with trades if I could, but I can't justify the expense of buying something twice. (Somehow, I can justify the ...
