I think the key to enjoying this "X-Men Forever" series is to think of it in the same way that I did the X-Men Animated Series from the '90s. It's an "Elseworlds" story that takes some of the core elements of the characters and series, but deals with them in an entirely new way.
This issue clinched my enjoying this series. It had all of the elements that I love about Claremont high drama, soap opera-like storylines, and outrageous moments. Claremont knows these characters and it shows.
In #3, it is revealed that Storm has "killed" Logan. I personally love any issue in which Storm gets any kind of spotlight, even a negative one. My theory is that this is not Storm at all, but a doppleganger or shape-shifter. Take notice of the age-regressed Storm appearing on future covers. Anyway, Claremont shows his love of these characters and I'm done hating on him for it.
Story: 5 - Excellent
Art: 4 - Very Good
Totally agree. There's something about this series that does feel like a cartoon or an "Adventures" series. It's easy (and totally justified) to take that as a negative, but I'm just having fun with it. This series is not as complex as Claremont's actual X-Men issues from the time were, but it's still a hoot to see him go wild with the melodrama.
