Amazing Spider-Man #561

I haven’t read much Amazing Spiderman since it turned to weekly. Actually I haven’t picked an issue up since One More Day, but when Ron picked 560 I decided I needed to check this arc out. I’m glad I did, Dan Slott, Marcos Martin, and Javier Rodriguez knocked this one out of the park. I haven’t read a Spidey story this good since… well in a while.

Dan Slott can write a pretty mean Spiderman story but you put Martin’s artwork with it and it just enhances the story. Martin has this simple retro-modern look to his art that plays to the history of Spiderman but still makes it feel modern. A lot of Romita Sr influence went into this and it works. He draws the characters spot on. The colors of Rodriguez shouldn’t go un-praised either; he sticks with the simplistic retro-modern feel too which just enhances the work a step more.

I give both story 5 and art 5 just classic Spiderman Storytelling. Nuff Said.
