Top Ten Season Two #1 (OF 4)

Kudos to Zander and Kevin Cannon, for they have managed to pull off a rare feat:  they've successfully followed Alan Moore on a title.  A bit early for such a pronouncement, perhaps, but everything that is great about Alan Moore's Top Ten is present in this first issue.  Zander Cannon, part of the art team of the original series, has no doubt learned a great deal about writing comics from Moore, and here he's showing us he's no mere mimic.  The dialogue has that same naturalistic rhythm that Moore's Season One did, with all the characters retaining their unique voice.  Also, just as in the original series, there are inside jokes-a-plenty for superhero comics lovers (i.e. "crossover dressing").  Most impressively, Zander's use of juxtaposition in transitioning from one scene to the next is oh-so-very Alan Moore.

The art from returning artist Gene Ha is more 'painterly' and lacks the heavy linework of Season One.  This may be off-putting to some, as the latter style probably has more of a 'wow' factor, but others may find that the new style allows for more expression in the faces of the characters and makes it easier to follow the action in this multiple-character story.

Anyone worried that this Top Ten will be as disasterous as the Beyond the Furthest Precinct mini by Paul Di Filippo and Jerry Ordway can rest easy.  This is good.
