I am surprised this book is into year two of publication. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy it. I just didn't know if there was still a market for sci-fi/space operas that I am a sucker for. The fact that this issue, Rann-Than Holy War, and Marvel's Guardians all came out in the same week made this fan happy.
While the art was sometimes confusing, I think it fits this book. It's a bit dark and chaotic, but it works. If it were too cartoony, I think this book would fail. The story had some nice moments: the history of Mongul, a brief history of Arisia in her fear-flashback page, the opening pagess of the GLs flying through orbiting dead bodies.(ew!) Favorite panel was the exchange between Stel and Bzzd (Best. GL. name.EVER!) "Faster,Stel--watch on your left--There's a large mass of intestines coming up on your--" " I am not extremely fond of backseat drivers,Bzzd"
Creepiest moment in comics recent history: the Sinestro Corps in prison, drawing their symbols on the glass with their blood, regurgitations, and other nasty alien fluids.
Awesome issue! Glad to see it moving up in numbers on the pull lists!
