Ultimate Spider-Man #126

There's no way that I can respond to this issue without talking about Ultimate Origins #4. The curve that comic book threw into the whole Peter Parker-Nick Fury relationship is huge, and it makes reading this story feel like yesterday's news. Which I guess it is. After all, this whole storyline took place "Months Ago" and so the fact that it wrapped up a bit too quickly and definitely too neatly really doesn't matter in the end, because we always knew it was going to wrap up with little consequences. That said, I was a little disappointed with what interaction there was here between Spider-Man and the Ultimates. Especially given that they're on the verge of being in a big crossover together. It was all pretty generic, really. Visually it looked great of course. Immonen is fantastic and it was cool to see him do this version of the Ultimates. I'm guessing this is the post-Ultimates 2 team. But when Peter was inside the boogie suit it was just his internal dialog. And then when he met with them again it was just a bunch of stopped conversations. It is interesting to see Fury's reactions to Peter. It's pretty clear now why he has such a fatherly attitude toward him. But I feel like there was a lot left on the table here. Back to UO4 (and a big Ultimate Origins SPOILER here if that concerns you). If Peter's father and mother really died when he was a baby, as that issue suggests, then everything that Fury has ever told Peter is a lie, including what he's saying in this issue. Plus which, isn't Bendis already doing a huge crossover event in which everything we thought we knew turns out to be false. As my brother-in-law said when we were talking about UO, "he's ret-conning himself!" And how many times does he get to do this? I don't know. I feel like this is an architectural tour of a house that's about to be torn down. It's very interesting but it hardly matters because it will be completely replaced in a few months.
