Easily, the greatest thing about Superman is his humanity, and it is showcased perfectly in this issue. Sorrow at Pa Kent's death, rage at Brainiac, joy for the survivors of Kandor, moderate annoyance at the one Kryptonian kid for punching a whale to death... this issue has it all.
I would've rather seen the same artist do the whole issue, or at least have clear segments for each artist, rather than just randomly switching from Gary Frank to whoever did the next part. But I guess they wanted to show off the artists that are on all three books. (Although I'm still a little upset I have to start reading Supergirl...)
I do have a newfound respect for Gary Frank though, just for the imaginary Superman beats the crap out of Brainiac sequence. That was really intense for only being a page long, and I don't think Superman has ever looked more intimidating and/or extremely pissed.
Judging from what happened in this issue: Clark and Ma Kent, Lois and her sister, Supergirl and her parents, the death of Clark's father and the return of Lois's... I'm guessing family is going to be a major theme for this story arc. And I absolutely love those kind of stories, which Robinson and Johns are both masters of writing.
I'm looking forward to this story more than any other Superman story I can remember, and I think you should be too.

Great review but you shouldnt be upset at picking up Supergirl. It was only one issue but I had lots of fun with the recent issue with the new creative team. I might not be a fan of Robinson and his Superman title; but I am excited on the quality of all 3 titles being great once again.
