Boys #29

Writer: Garth Ennis
Penciller/Inker: Darick Robertson
Covers: Darick Robertson AND DAVID LLOYD

Price: $2.99

This issue shows why it is worth plodding through the so called sleeper issues of the boys. Garth Ennis has been establishing characters with hearts and a fucked up world where these characters make hard choices to exist in that world. And it's been a tad boring. Reading this ark, I've been waiting for the payoff of "The Boys vs the G-Men". Well you get it here and it's awesome. I have also been waiting for confirmation that Godolkin is as creepy as he looks. You get that too. On page five Derrick Robertson really sends chills down my spine with his representation of the self assured facial expression of a pederast, who knows he's gonna get away with victimizing the innocent. Breakthroughs, blow ups, throat punches, you got it here. I think that The Boys, for the average audience, will read better in trades. That is to say it will be more gratifying, you wont have disturbing images haunting you all month, waiting for the bad guys to get whats comming for them in the next issue, and wondering why bad things happen to good people. Me? I'm gonna pick this up every month with complete faith in Garth and Derrick. Knowing full well that the first issue of a new ark will be turning everything upside down, 3-4 issues more to get used where everthing is now, and one or two blow it all up again. Good fun. Best issue in a long while .........maybe ever
