Wow, the reviews of this have been very harsh. Like many others I used to like everything Kevin Smith touched and his star has fallen with me as well. That being said, I enjoyed this a great deal and can't help wondering if the negativity isn't a little exaggerated because of Smith's baggage in the community.
Don't get me wrong, I didn't love the entire thing and the art was serviceable at best. I wasn't fond of the Joker's willingness to, um ... de-flower himself, but did find it funny. If I treat this as an Elseworlds or a 'What If Kevin Smith Ruled the Batverse' story then I enjoy it even more. Also, I enjoyed it more than All-Star Batman (aka "What If Jim Lee and Frank Miller Ruled the Batverse").
I think if you want some good dialog and a story that romps through the entire Batverse then you will like this. It is very dense as well, a lot of story.
Story: 4 - Very Good
Art: 2 - Average
I have to say, I like this a lot. I know people are ragging on Kevin Smith, but regardless of who's writing, I think this was a really solid book.
Anytime Deadshot is around I pay attention (I'm hooked on the Secret Six), and the interchange between Floyd and Joker was great.
I actually liked the scene in the woods, I thought it was both really funny, and very much in character for the Joker.
All in all, I think this was a very good addition to the Batman mythos.
