I was initially concerned when I heard that Wolverine was getting yet another ongoing book, the character is truly over-exposed, and I was fearful that nothing more could be done with him. Well once I learned that Jason Aaron was doing the book I became curious, and now that I have read the first issue, I am very satisfied with the effort. Many writers in the past have ignored the fact that Wolverine is a KILLER. A VIOLENT man. Too many past writers have gotten caught up in the "Canukle-head" or the Samurai tones. I don't know if that was purposely done on their parts or it was an editorial dictate from the office, but I do know that when Wolverine sliced the hand off that mugger on the BART train, and the way that it was drawn on the page lets the reader know that this isn't Wolverine and Power Pack! This is a visceral and dangerous character and that has been lost over the years, and I think that the style of Jason Aaron can bring that back to the forefront, at least for this title. The story sets up a meeting with Maverick and the search for a group that is using Weapon X tech to create mueredous beings. The highlight for me of this book was the hand being sliced off, follwed by the crack that he made about Maverick's mother...priceless. A great start to what looks to be another Jason Aaron masterpiece.
