Dr. Atomic Robo Tesla
Atomic Robo is one of my favorite comics right now. I can sum it up in one word: FUN. It is consistently a book that I enjoy reading. It is a great mix of irreverence, action, intelligence and humor. Atomic Robo himself is an absurd character. He is a super-advanced, indestructable atomic robot created by Nikola Tesla at the beginning of the 20th century. But you immediately overlook that because he is so endearing. The in your face absurdity of it adds to the humor, especially in situations where Robo is making fun of the absurdity of other characters.
This storyline features a Cthullu-like extra-dimensional entity who is intersecting with our dimension at different times. The teamups Robo has are great. The first time it appeared, Nikola Tesla himself beat it. Then in the early1900s it came back, appearing out of the head of H.P. Lovecraft...literally.
The story follows Robo through out the 20th century. This issue he is in 1971 and he is teaming up with Carl Sagan to fight the monster. It has great characters and great dialouge that reminds me of a more light-hearted Bendis.
My favorite moment of the book was Carl Sagan, using an energy weapon he just cobbled together on the spot and screaming "...tell them Carl Sagan sent you!"
I recommend this book to everyone.
