Transformers Focus On Decepticons
Review by comicdork37:
Price: $2.99
While it may seem odd to write a review of what is essentially a preview book for an upcoming Transformers event entitled "All Hail Megatron" by IDW, the interviews, art and 8 page preview of issue #1 is worth the cover price of $2.99 (you almost never see that from IDW). Plus who can pass up the awesome Scarface homage cover of Megatron? This upcoming event is what I have been waiting for. I have been buying Transformers comics since the now defunct DreamWave stuff until now and can honestly say that the last few years I have only been buying out of habit and love for the property. Overall the stories have been boring, confusing and/or repetitive. But this new series promises a new approach. One that "takes the gloves off" so-to-speak. This is the Decepticons being as bad as they want to be and doing whatever they want to do. This is illustrated perfectly in one particular panel that shows a bloody shoe and cell phone in the foreground as the Decepticons trash the city in the background. This time they are playing for keeps it appears. I am glad to see this more real world approach gritty approach to the Transformers. I can't say much about the writing by Shane McCarthy (Detective Comics, Legends of the Dark Knight) other than the premise and first 8 pages are awesome. The art is done by TF fan favorite Guido Guidi and while he does the Transformers very well his somewhat cartoon/manga inspired take on humans isn't my favorite. If you have ever been interested in the Transformers in the past and are looking for a jumping on point...this is it.
