This was my Book of the Week. I loved how the Asgardians were portrayed, and the epic feel of this issue. This issue presents Thor and his fellows before they encountered the modern Marvel universe. We begin to see why Odin sentenced Thor to live as Donald Blake until he learned humility. He is portrayed as a vain and proud god who looks down on anyone else. We also get to see how bloodthirsty the Asgardians can be in their hunting of the Frost Giants. Another intriguing thing was the presentation of the Enchantress. Here she was shown as a noble, beautiful goddess, that is loved by all. What happens to her here helps the reader understand how she became the villainess that is known in the Marvel U.
That art is presented in a widescreen format that fits the issue. Paneled splash pages make up the entire issue, but do it in a way that does not shorten the story. Both of the art teams here capture the epic feel of the story, and show all the brutality as well. Fraction has given us a great examination of what the Asgardians are like when no mortals are around.
Story: 5 - Excellent
Art: 5 - Excellent
This was AWESOME.
