Rann Thanagar Holy War #5 (OF 8)

This issue started to tie in some of the threads that were brought up in the Hawkman and Adam Strange specials. Synnar is reborn as the true Synnar, formerly known as the Nameless. he is also the one who guided both Strange and Hawkman on thier recent cosmic excursions. I felt that the guilt felt by Strange over the destruction of Throneworld last issue was realistic, and showed what it is like for a man like that to fail. The devestation Starman feels has made him a wild card, and I cannot predict what he is going to do next. I definitly think a confrontation between him and Strange is in the near future though.
Two other plot points that I liked in this issue were the development of Comet, and the dispursing of the Rannian and Thannagarian fleets. Comet keeps trying to act like a mercenary, whose only true goal is to keep himself alive. In this issue his heroic side starts to show again. I like how people keep saying how different he is from the previous Captain Comet, when they are really the same man. His actions here show that he hasn't been able to completly abandon his heroic tendencies yet. When he dispensed the fleets the scene shifts back to Rann and we see Sardath's reaction to it. He is so devoted to Lady Styx that he does not question the sudden twist of being commanded to stand down. His beliefs have consumed him, and I am interested to see what happens in future issues when he meets his goddess in person, and if he will still think so highly of her.
This was a great issue that raised some interesting issues, and developed the story to a satisfying degree. I have pretty much stated all that is needed about the art in previous reviews, and nothing has changed here. Lim is still doing a fantastic job of showing the reader these various exotic locales. As this series begins to near the end I am excited to see how the different threads fit together, and in the end who, if anyone, will win this war.
