Green Lantern #30

I love how this arc is weaving in Johns' new threads into Hal's backstory. Here we the death of Abin Sur and Hal gaining his ring. Johns keeps his interpretation of the GL Corps consistent by having Hal not have his emblem yet, he must first earn it. We see Hal learn to use his ring, and his joy of gaining the ability to fly again. I love how this arc is tied to Hal's dad and his death, and how that moment has guided all of Hal's decisions since. I was intrigued to see Hector Hammond in this issue, and look forward to seeing how it ties into what happened early in this series.

There is little I can say about Reis' art that hasn't already been said. He was born to draw this book. This was a great issue that gives us more of Hal's backstory, and lets us see how it ties in to the upcoming Blackest Night.
