I loved this issue. It introduced new threads into the story, as well as developing those established last issue. We finally begin to see the beginnings of Darkseid's plans. It looks like he is using Turpin to reincarnate himself at full strength. We also see him begin to take out the biggest threats to his plans. A surprising move is having Batman taken out already. Usually Superman is the one taken out early and Batman saves the day. I don't know if Superman will be the main hero, but by taking out Batman Darkseid has shown that he is a serious threat.
Jones' art is great. The brutality of the scene between Turpin and the Mad Hatter is drawn so well that you almost feel every blow. Turpin was the highlight for me artistically. Seeing his expression as he slowly realizes that the New Gods did something to him, and that it is taking over.
Morrison is amping up the anticipation here. He has established the threat of his villains, and I can't wait to see the trap sprung. I can also rest in the knowledge that by the last issue most if not all of the random points here will become important and tie in to the main story.
