This is an intriguing start to the anticipated Batman RIP arc. This issue shows Batman at what appears to be a high point, but the cracks show. Crime is down, and he has a understanding girlfriend who knows and supports his secret. At the same time he died for 4 minutes not to long ago. He went through two highly mentally stressful experiences with isolation, and may be cracking from that pressure. He has not known Jezebel for too long, but has thrown himself into this relationship with a sense of desperation. Finally, we have a secret society that is organized with the purpose of tearing him down.
This issue made me study every panel trying to find a hidden meaning behind it. While it had a lot of recap for those just joining the series now, it is done in a way that keeps invested readers interested. The art is great, with the scariest Joker I've seen in quite a while. Some of the issue was too cryptic for me, like the Joker scene, but I'm sure the meaning of these scenes will come to light by the end of the arc.
I hope the opening statement of this issue is true, but with Morrison you just never know what will happen. I for one plan on sitting back and enjoying the ride.
Story: 5 - Excellent

"This issue made me study every panel trying to find a hidden meaning behind it."
That why I've enjoyed this run so much, because it invites--err, actually maybe it demands--and sometimes even rewards the reader doing detective work.
