Geoff Johns is doing a spectacular job on this book. He is expanding the
rogues gallery in new and interesting ways.
That being said, I was utterly
disappointed with this issue. I think Tan is the absolute worst choice for
artist on this book. It is way too dirty looking and his shading, which would
work for noir books, looks incredibly out of place here. It isn’t bad, but it
isn’t good for the book.
And I know I can’t be the only one burnt out on the
road to Darkest Night. I know it makes more sense to introduce as much as you
can before the action kicks in so you’re not spending page after page
establishing when you could be kicking ass, but I really have to say enough
already.
By the time this issue got to the point where it was explaining why
Agent Orange was pissed at the guardians I begging for this issue to end. It
was nice to see the Manhunters actually be effective and the Guardians be a
little ruthless, but I just don’t care anymore. Just bring on the space zombies
dammit.
I did love the ending though. I’m very curious how long that’s going to
stick around and if people will bitch like they did when it happened to
Aquaman.
