I did not care for this issue overall. It was another anthology book
that might add something to the story overall, but I am incredibly
burnt out on the back story of BN.
There were 3 stories here.
The first
one is great for Bible scholars but kind of trite for the rest of us.
If anyone didn't think that Saint Walker's family was going to be dead
by the end of this story, they just weren't paying attention.
I think
the part of this I liked the least was that the only way you can be an
avatar of hope is by being religious. In a world with such a strong
atheistic character such as Mr. Terrific, I had hope, but instead we
get another Bible story.
The second story was really well drawn, but
also a little predictable.
I liked seeing the original Mongul through
the eyes of his son. I liked seeing how megalomaniacal junior was even
at that age.
There was something disturbing about making the corpse bow
down and worship him.
The last story felt like Johns was trying way too
hard to be one of those old Alan Moore backups that birthed Blackest
Night.
I guess compassion is the same as euthanasia in DCU, but this
just seemed odd for the sake of its own oddness. Having a race of
people that speak no known language isn't interesting in comic form.
It's just tedious.
Nothing was bad, but nothing was that interesting.
