Wednesday Comics #2 (OF 12)

Wednesday Comics and blackest night represent two extremes. The latter is formulaic, Meltzerian, women in refrigerators, overwrought corporate death-porn. The former consists of smart, well-written, and groundbreaking (sometimes even in ways which should seem reactionary) tributes to the medium, the characters, and the form of comic storytelling. Let us hope that DC continues the boldness which produces work like this. Issue 2 is even better than the first. Karl Kerschl's strip would deserve POTW on its own merit. No one has done a flash strip this good since, like, Cary Bates. And as if that weren't enough we get Paul Pope's wonderful Adam Strange story, and Kyle Baker's deft exploration of Hawkman as Ayn Randian objectivist Ubermensch.

I'm a hardcore lefty. I hate Ayn Rand, but i think Baker's doing interesting stuff and I'm excited to see where he's taking things

The "socialist leech" comment was intended as a joke, I hope I didn't offend.

Personally, I enjoy both books and hope DC continues to put out work of both natures (and many more). You know what they say: One man's death-porn is another man's fetish.
I'm also enjoying the Hawkman take, though I believe Kamandi is my favorite stoy to this point.
Also, I may add "Ayn Randian objectivist Ubermensch" to my business card. Hell of an ice breaker (unless, of course, the recipient is a socialist leech).
