Criminal Sinners #1
Review by akamuu:
WRITER: Ed Brubaker
PENCILS: Sean Phillips
COVER BY: Sean Phillips
Price: $3.50
I think I need a break from Brubaker & Phillips' Noir series for a while. Having been completely underwhelmed by the end of Incognito, I was really looking forward to the new Criminal series. But, when I picked it up, I was...well...underwhelmed. Phillips's art has become really boring to me. I know some people swear by it, and love it, and great for them. To me, he's drawing the same dull pages over and over. The anatomy is correct. The shadows are well placed. The muted colors are officially trademarked. It needs...something. The color pallete to change for specific reasons? More pages that happen in daylight? I don't know. The art just leaves me yawning.
I also realized that, before Incognito, I read the Brubaker Noir series in trades, and I think they're much better to read that way.
