Solomon Grundy #1 (OF 7)

So I picked up the recent one-shot by Johns (it was Johns and 75% off at DCBS).  Got to the end, and sure enough, it wasn't really a one-shot, but a mini-primer.  I no almost nothing about Grundy, but I've always been curious, so I figured I'd give this a go. 

The story seemed to go at a very quick pace, and just a little on the confusing side (perhaps due to pacing, or maybe just my lack of info about the character).  Even so, it's easy enough to get the gist of it. I simply worry that it may break down into less of a character study and more of a monster mash-up book - which will still be entertaining, just not quite fitting with the tone set from the one-shot. 

The really strong point in this issue was the art.  Had this been any other character/book, I'm sure I would have been unhappy with it, but everything about this book screamed old-school horror comic art.  Really heavy inks, and a sharp contrast in terms of busy, almost messy details between the good and sinister characters of the story. 

If you're a fan of old horror comics, this is definitely one to flip through.  Hopefully the pacing improves a little with the following issues.
