Huh? What? Que? Como? Seven issues, all equally nonsensical. Grant Morrison didn't write this book; he sewed it together with a rusty nail using barbed wire as thread. From panel to panel, it was nearly impossible to determine what is going on. No text describing time and place...ever, no narrative of any remote value, just rambling Lois Lane gibberish. It's obscene how many times I had to ask myself, 'Wait, did the previous page have anything to do with the present page?" "Are we in the same location?" "Time?" "Which Earth is this?" "How did these people get here?" "Who's working for who?" I'd go back and read the run from the beginning, but I'm not interested in punishing myself to that degree. Having read Countdown and all the lead-ins, one-shots, and Superman Beyond (which, in the case of Beyond, may have been the only book MORE confusing than the baseline title. Incidentally, thanks Morrison for the 3-d glasses, that helped sooo much), you'd think I would see this issue from a decent enough vantage to make a qualified guess about the plot. Call me names, put my head on a pike, but do not tell me that you understood most of what you read and expect me to believe you. Even the Wikipedia entry on Final Crisis had to stuff random Morrison commentary from a series of sources in order to half-heartedly articulate the plot. It is my full and fair belief, that if you read everything Morrison has ever written, paid close attention and kept all these reference materials within arms-length while reading this run, then you may have fathomed the point. Congratulations. Please fill me in. I look at this series as the opportunity to completely change my pull list and leave many parts of DC well enough alone. Fortunately, the next milestonic event will be tailored by Geoff Johns - I'll be back for the Black Lanterns, but Morrison and I are 100% over. I'm a DC fan at heart, but despite the fact that Secret Invasion wasn't incredibly impressive, I'd hand it to Bendis over Morrison every time as well. There may have been a decent idea or concept in this series, but the execution was so incredibly lacking. I kept waiting to be clued in with each consecutive book, but no help whatsoever. To end on a positive note, the best part of Final Crisis was Rogues Revenge. I don't recommend this series for anyone who knows very little about the New Gods.

Story: 1 - Poor Art: 3 - Good

Comments

TRue, true true, I didnot read New Gods, Seven Soldiers, any of Kirby's fourth world, didn't know Talky tawny or Sonny sumo.

I wiki'd every obscure person(Lolita Canary?), thing (Motherbox, ping WTF?) and came to the conclusion that a drawing (metron's circuit) and Supe's wish saved the world

I did enjoy the pretty pictures tho! Thank you Mr. JG Jones, Manhke

You know what? I think that was the point. Don't get me wrong, I'm not defending this, I hated it as much as you. It just seems that with all the time stuff happening in this issue, we were meant to feel all disjointed & confused, but it's no fun to read & it sure as hell makes no sense, so -- mission accomplished. But, I like stories that are fun to read & make sense, call me old fashioned.

I also read all of Countdown, all the tie-in series, including RIP, so if this issue (& series) made no sense to me, I would say that's a problem. The G-Mo defenders will of course just say that I can't read, or I'm too dumb to grasp this, but I have been reading comics all my life & have never had a problem following the narrative. Ever.

No Wade, I'd just have to say its not to your taste or to your personal confort level. I enjoyed FC alot, but even I find it poor arguing to infer assumptions about the intelligence of those who dissagree with you

Wade, you and I were on the same page on R.I.P. also, so I'm not surprised about your comments here. Cookie sniffles maximum baffle sword doesn't make for a good sentence. And you can draw your own analogies to FC. I echo your sentiment about never having difficulty following a narrative. Was that Justice League Watchtower from the Earth we know and love or from some other Earth? How did the fortress of solitude get stuck to the bottom of it?

I don't think he was trying to pick a fight, MastaP.  I think all of us just want the most for our money, and the most out out of our most beloved characters, and like me, but maybe not like you (and best to you if you did like it), he wasn't so thrilled about this one.
