Green Lantern #37

Geoff Johns amazes me when he gets an issue of Green Lantern out. Not because it's well written and has some of the best art in a title in every issue. But because it manages to give me some of the best endings in a comic period.

Yes Nova does endings just as great, maybe even better, but John's endings are always great. Before I get to the ending let me show my love to the Blue Lanterns. Johns is trying hard to make us get scared of the Red Lanterns, but he is just making the Blue one's oh so more interesting. They dont do anything remarkable like changing a planet from dying to 6 billion years younger; but I just love every moment I've seen them on the panels. This issue also flashes back to the early Sinestro/Jordan team-ups, pretty much giving us more taste from the 'Secret Origin' arc from a couple of months ago. But again, like I mentioned earlier, the endings for GL are so great. This one in general just comes out of no where and I literally was shocked on what happen to Jordan and I cant wait to see if/how Johns gets Jordan back as a Green Lantern.

Ivan Reis also proves that he is the best cosmic artist period. Sure I can give praise to Alves for Nova, but Reis has done nothing but brilliance for each issue he does of GL. His pencils are so gorgeous and detailed that every panel looks like (as I call it) a poster. It doesnt matter if it's just people flying into space, or an explosion of fight scenes, Reis just makes them look good. Oh and a great two page spread in this as well.

This might not have kicked ass like the previous issue, I mean it's hard not to impress someone after a wonderful introduction to the blue lanterns. But this issue is just showing us that the Blackest Night is coming ever so slowly and that it cant come any slower. Every issue of GL and GLC is just giving us a taste of what is going to come and I for one cannot wait til the Blackest Night shadows over the DCU.
