very enjoyable read. extremely well-paced - we don't even get to see barry throughout much of the first half of the book, really building the anticipation.
what surprised me was that everything was a bit more complicated than i expected. too often, superheroes return from the dead and the matter is swept under the rug as soon as possible, so the status quo is restored. but barry is clearly a changed man - a little more intense than expected, and with his past hanging over him. johns handled it all really well - barry enjoying the "higher speed" of modern sociey was a great touch, and his constant running around the museum while talking with hal made him seem twitchy and uncomfortable. i instantly felt like things weren't right; one has to wonder how long barry will be back with us.
van sciver brings it with some fantastic pages - the one of barry changing into his costume was really quite fantastic. there's a nice blend of detailed scenes without everything feeling cluttered.
look, there's no big, bombastic moments going on here - in fact, that final page "surprise" of the speed force going weird felt rather tacked on. but it's a well-told, solid character piece. anxious to see where we're heading.
Story: 4 - Very Good
Art: 5 - Excellent
Interesting review. Thanks!
