Well, all in all i thought it was a really good week in comics. I had a lot of books that were great reads with some unexpected surprises.

When it came down to it though, the relaunch of Firebreather from Image Comics was my Pick of the Week.

Firebreather is created by Phil Hester and Andy Kuhn. The series focuses on the life of a teenage half-dragon. His mom is human, and his dad is a GIANT Dragon. They have joint custody of him. Originally this was a mini series in 2003, and I remember picking it up and really enjoying the concept. Phil Hester writes in the back of this issue

"I confess I've secretly been writing the book during the hiatus, rolling story ideas around in my head in whatever idle time I found. I took notes and scripted scenes just like I did for my active writing assignments. I missed writing the book so much that I took time away from paying gigs to work out plot points and new characters."

It seems that this is really a labor of love for Hester and Kuhn and it clearly comes across on the page. If I were to describe this book to people I would say, "Think Invincible meets Hellboy"

It really is a great book. The character design for Duncan Rosenblatt is great. Orange skin, small developing horns, and innocent boy blond hair. It one of those designs that sticks with you. I always remember this character from 2003 and always wondered where he went. I am so glad that this is now an ongoing series and look forward to reading it each month.
