This will be my first negative review on iFanboy. That is mainly because I enjoy most of what I read. Sometimes I take chances. I took a chance on Raven #1. I mean, we've got Marv Wolfman writing Raven. You can't lose with that right?
So upon finishing #1, I was intrigued enough to pick this up. It continued the story of this scientist experimenting with coma patients and emotions. We find out that he now has in his possession the mask of Psycho Pirate, the Medusa Mask. Sounds ok right? Well, I'm not really sure what happenned in this issue because while the first issue's art did not impress me, I did think it fit the book. It has a young, nu-anime-esque look. Very bubbly and colorful. It wasn't my thing, but I tolerated it in #1 because of the story.
Unfortunately, my tolerance has been broken. I'm not so sure that it is the art, though yes, its bad, it's more the layout. Granted, I am admittedly far from an expert, but I know what I like. And I know when I can't even follow the story and actually read thru a comic! The panels (when there were ones) bleed into eachother above, below and side to side. It really made my head hurt and become a chore to page through the book. By the end, I no longer cared who the shooter was or who was going to die or even about the reappearance of the Medusa Mask.
With apologies to Mr. Wolfman, I'm tapping out on this book. Where is George Perez when you need him sir?
Story: 3 - Good
Art: 1 - Poor
