Have you been reading the Avengers and wondering where all the Skrulls are? It turns out, they're in Captain Marvel! For two issues I thought this mini-series was going to be a finely crafted examination of the nature of fate and destiny, more-or-less removed from the core Marvel continuity, but now it looks like this book might be more closely tied to the ongoing Skrullduggery than I had imagined.
Reed does a good job balancing the action with Mar-Vell's ongoing internal struggles, while interspersing some well-placed humor. On pencils, Lee Weeks draws great Skrulls that truly look like creepy little aliens, instead of just green humans with ridiculous chins.
This book has quietly become my second favorite Marvel offering after Captain America and I'm looking forward to see where Reed is taking this classic character.
