This issue was pure Silver-Agey fun!
The introduction by Phantom Stranger catches us up, turn the page to a 2-page splash of our current Shadowpact (SP for short), the SP of the future, and the SP of the past. We've only just met these characters but the rosters at the top and bottom are great fun: "Revenant: Dangerous, destructive, and dead", "Apalala: The Buddhist dragon--at one with kicking your butt" and my favorite "Miss Poltergeist: Teen Angst Made Manifest". I'm still chuckling at that one. She may be my new favorite character.
The evil Sun King is growing stronger, he's sucked all the energy out of his own galaxy and has traversed time and space to suck the energy out of our own...future, past and present. Nice setup.
Great one-liners, a challenge to Daniel Cassidy (the recently de-horned and de-rhymed Blue Devil), imps are chased, Hydras are fought (in flashback), the three teams break into...well, three teams with members from each, havoc ensues globally, Sun King manifests giant human flaming (no, not RuPaul) form
My only complaint with the art (and it's a very minor complaint), the two page spread near the end of the book... the SP characters in the air look like they were color-forms that were just stuck on the scene (remember those things?). If they had been color-forms that would have been even better.
I just found out the next issue is the last issue. How depressing. I'm gonna write a letter, fans managed to save Manhunter, we can save Shadowpact. I've enjoyed every issue of this book since the 1 Year Later storyline ended. I'm feeling my own teen angst, or is it early onset male menopause?
Grab issues 23 and 24 and get 25 when it comes out if you like a fun Silver-Age style story with great art and colors. If you enjoy it, try to save this book.
