This issue was a genuine struggle for me. Whether it was the script itself, or licenses taken by the artist, I found it very difficult to follow the narrative in the action sequence--which dominates the issue. To be fair, it was a rather difficult scene to pull off in static images, with not only two identical characters locked in combat, but a little bit of shapeshifting action going on as well.
I think there are a lot of instances of complex comic sequences where you're either on the same wave length as the writer/artist and their panel progression, or you're not. In this case, I really did have a hard time of it.
I do give both Bendis and Mack extra points for the bookend scenes where Echo removes her hand from her face and then back again. It's a nice narrative idea, and it was executed very well.

i thought this comic was great (rated a 4 for me). i didn't have trouble following the story and really enjoyed the shapeshifting scenes and the panel layout. i am a big mack fan though - my only disappointment was that the whole issue wasn't painted as the cover was. enjoyed the story - i hope that bendis continues with stories in new/might avengers focusing on single characters like he did in cival war - looking forward to secret invasion next week!
