Punisher #1

I say this review contains spoilers, but there really is not that much to spoil.
Frank tried to shoot Normie.
Sentry caught the bullet.
20 pages of a useless chase scene follows.
There I just saved you $3.99. That is unless you think you need the Punisher Saga back-up, which, if you do, I'll also help you with that.
Frank Castles family was murdered.
Frank got mad...GRRRRRRR
Frank kills a bunch of gangsters and basically has a fucked up life, although nothing about the character ever shows any progression EVER!
That's not to say that some of these Punisher stories aren't great, some are fantastic, but there was no need to charge me an extra buck for a "Story so far..." type thing when none of it has ever mattered one iota.
Oh and the Sentry, yeah apparently him and the Punisher are buddy buddy enough that he can call him Frank and talk to him like a 2 year old that just threw a temper tantrum. I know Sentry has this secret history that was wiped away, but was he really a friend to EVERYBODY in the Marvel universe? Even the murdering vigilantes?
This issue could have been done in 2-4 pages easily. I was willing to give this book a shot but will not be buying any issues after this. Any book that takes less than a minute to read is not worth $3.99, or really, that 60 seconds.
As far as the art goes, it was ok. I'm sure his work is much better when it is not inked to all hell. There's gritty, there's Frank Quitely drawing fat people, then there was this issue. I would like to see the original pencils to see what this guy really can do.
Ultimately this issue was a waste of time. Please do not buy this crap, especially not for $3.99. I can hope Remender does better with his pacing in the future, but at this point this issue has actually turned me off of getting any of his previous work, which is a shame since I hear such good things about Fear Agent. Then again I heard really good things about this issue before it came out as well.
