Batman #678
Review by Marbles:
Written by Grant Morrison
Art by Tony Daniel & Sandu Florea
Cover by Alex Ross

Price: $2.99
The Emperor Has No Clothes.
Morrison's been cut enough slack already, far more than any other creator would have, on the basis that "he's a genius" & "it will all come out in the end". Well its time to wake up and smell the roses.
I'm seriously beginning to think he's deliberately taking the piss.
This is a bad, bad comic. No excuses, no wishful thinking otherwise.

You would think that if this was such a bad comic, the average rating would be lower. It's a comic defintiely not written for everyone, that's for sure. But for those it is written for, it's quite good.

This is a great book if you can handle non-linear and occasionally abstract thinking patterns. I would like to think of this book as the Mullholland drive of superhero comics.
Posted by MisterBlank on 07/05/08 at 08:42 PMThis is a polarizing book, for sure -- I've posted more times off this single issue on this webspace than for all other topics combined.
Posted by WilliamKScurryJr on 07/05/08 at 09:13 PMIs it possible to agree with both sides?
Posted by spongebat on 07/05/08 at 10:26 PMIf it's not for everyone why is it a big event?
Posted by JumpingJupiter on 07/06/08 at 02:44 AMI have no idea what's going on, but I'm hooked like Bruce Wayne on "weapons grade heroin." I don't think Morrison will let me down.
Posted by PhantomPhrenemy on 07/06/08 at 03:06 AMThat's crazy, you can't give the art a 1. And the story's awesome as well, a slow burner maybe, but still awesome.
Posted by LiamHoward on 07/06/08 at 07:48 AMI disliked this issue but I'm still curious how it will turn out and I just think it would be a big mistake to have not only Thomas Wayne alive, but the bad guy. Granted having his hero turn out to be a bad guy would certainly make Bruce have a breakdown.
Posted by Kory on 07/06/08 at 10:46 AMI was about to drop this book....then I read this issue. Now I'm in till the end.
Posted by Animalvader1 on 07/06/08 at 08:20 PM@Conor: Then who is it written for in your opinion? People who feel like researching everything about the book bit by bit? Is it possible that the audience "reviewers" of iFanboy are a little more hardcore about their books than the average comic fan who might be reading this?
Posted by DocSamson on 07/06/08 at 09:22 PM@DocSamson - It's for people who have read Morrison's entire run, and have *read it closely*. Every single issue he has written (except for, possibly, the Ra's al Ghul crossover) have been tied into RIP. People who have jumped on the book for the event will probably be lost.
Posted by conor on 07/06/08 at 09:38 PMSo it's the marketing department's fault?
