After leaving us with Iron Man and Doom in the past this book starts off to show us that everyone's favorite cry-baby super hero has also turned up in the past...The Sentry (Also the cover might have given away that he got stuck in the past). First the negative (because there is ALOT more positive) the sentry just doesn't work. From New Avengers #1 (where I first met the character) through World War Hulk and now Mighty Avengers its still hard to endure this guy, because he just hasn't seem to have grown AT ALL past "I'm powerful but also insane." Maybe it's because he's prominet in a team book and doesn't have a solo title, but it feels like this character is just the same character month in and month out. So whenever this issue moves focus to the Sentry, it feels like re-hash "I'm insane, oh no the void, is any of this real?"

BUT with that, this is still an excellent, excellent read.

First off, the art. I'm a Bagley fan, but have felt that some of his pencils (at least in the beginning of this run) was rushed to meet up with the delays. In this issue, the art is spot on, and the dotted style (which is 95% of the book) works so well with his art, it really does feel like an old comic. Some of the shots of Doom and the fight between The Thing and the Sentry are just really good pages, working well with the "old comic" style. Also it's fun to note if you look on the bottom of the pages, they all have small notes either "Turn the next page." or adverts for other books, adding to that great feel of classic comic.

And of course, can't go without mentioning Bendis writing. We here all know Bendis is a good writer, no question about it. And many of the moments in this book had me laughing out loud, mainly the dialouge between Tony Starke and Doom. This felt like a bizare yet wonderful "buddy" film, with two people that hate each other, yet need each other (think Midnight Run). Honestly if just these two talking went on for another issue, I wouldn't mind. Doom has some of the best lines I think Doom has ever had while still being Doom, "A Lot more people hate you than hate me."

So in the end, I really enjoyed this book (minus the Sentry stuff) and am looking forward to the next issue.

The 'Midnight Run' comparison is perfect. The stuff with Iron Man and Doom just made me smile and laugh out loud, and -- well, the Sentry was less useless than he normallly is? Anyway, I could just tell how much fun Bendis and Bagley had doing this. Awesome issue.

Great review, pretty much how I felt about the issue. But I'm not sure how rushed Mark Bagley's pencils have been on this arc. I remember Bendis announced last April at Emerald City Comicon that Bagley would be the penciler for the second arc, and knowing Bagley's reputation, he probably got ahead of Frank Cho during that oft-delayed first arc. I think Bagley's Mighty Avengers' run may have been in the can for awhile, considering the recent accelerated release schedule for the title. It took what, 10 months for the first arc to finish; Bagley's last issues will be out in two weeks meaning we got 5 issues in three months. Man deserves a bonus for getting the series reasonably close to being back on schedule.

Oh yeah I'm not basing on Bagley at all, and for the most part 3/4 issues have looked great, it was that first one, something seemed...offish, but I'm loving this stuff and will be a bit bumed when he goes, cause I love getting this book this quickly.

Loved the art, Loved the story, HATE the sentry - please find a way to get rid of him and end the whining.

yeah, went back and looked at that first issue & I'll concede there was something a bit off. Maybe after all that Ultimate Spider-man, he needed an issue to find his feet on a new title.

lets talked about the sentry for a second.

He is a new caharacter, he needs time to grow. Bendis is a smart dude and he understands that Marvel has a history of expanding the universe by developing new characters. New caharacters generate conflict with existing characters; without this stories would become redundant as existing characters re-hash past interactions.

so come on, give Bob a break. That crasy whiny bastard
