INVINCIBLE has been reinvented, for better or for worse. In my opinion, Robert Kirkman can do no wrong. So when issue 51 was shipped to my house I devoured it and absolutely loved it. New costume, new partner, new-ish base of operations.. basically a small paradigm shift for the book.
Here are my personal high points:
- the developing relationship between Invincible and his brother.
- the cool new costume
- the great colors by Fco Plascencia
- the issue's headline "The All-New, All-Awesome INVINCIBLE"
For me (I can be picky) there are only two negative things for the issue:
- the cover by Jim Lee. It's not horrible, but there was no reason for it to not be an Ottley cover (but Ottley did do the 2nd print cover, so I guess it evens out well enough)
- Invincible looks somewhat awkward without the knee-pads. I thought they looked really cool. But it isn't my book, so what can I do about it? The costume still looks great, though.
So I'm pretty much loving the series, especially since I just started getting it monthly with issue #50. The series shows no signs of slowing down, and I wouldn't drop the book even if it did.

Knee pads.
I'm glad to see them go. I also like how the characters acknowledged how silly knee pads are on someone who is indestructable.
