Secret Invasion #5 (OF 8)

Mmm mmm, that's fine crow.

First and foremost I admit to being wrong: Clint is not a skrull. Mockingbird is, or should I say was? Paris Hilton, Barack Obama, John McCain, Tiger Woods, Simon Cowell and Namor(?) are.. skrulls. How's that for a reveal?

Secret Invasion #5 has arrived, and it only took five months to find out what happened at Thunderbolt Mountain, see where Nick Fury's been hidin' out, be sure that Tony's not a skrull and FINALLY (yes, it happened) leave the Savage Land - with Ka-zar in tow (he want go New York and fight).

 So it's official, we are coming down the mountain. What a relief. I suppose now the naysayers will find something else to hate, inevitably, but for those of us who have rode out the storm it's time to take a deep breath and hold on. I believe we're in for a beat-em up treat. 

Now for a little speculation:

It seems to me that this Secret Invasion is doing something imperative for the Marvel U. It is, in fact, bringing our heroes together. There's been a lot of unrest about the whole hero vs. hero issue since Civil War and how it could be resolved (i.e. Tony being a skrull. and thank God he's not). Well I think now we know where a good deal of resolution will come from.

Assurredly this won't heal all wounds, but it will begin the healing process. There are a lot of problems that won't just simply go away, like say,  the death of Steve Rogers or the Superhero Registration Act. Hopefully, though, Marvel heroes will recognize that they all fight for the same cause: the safety of earth and its citizens.

Secret Invasion #5 is, as you might have guessed, not a perfect book. There exist a few holes which are likely to be filled in the next issue. Most importantly, where the hell are our Cap and Thor cameos? Yes, Secret Invasion Thor did come out today. Yes, I did buy it. Doesn't matter though. I want them now and in this book!

My longing for Thor and Cap hardly stands as a valid complaint knowing that these cameos will come soon enough. All in all this was an entertaining book. It won't be POTW, but it will settle some of the plot movement anxiety that's been steadily increasing since issue #2.
