Nearly one year in and the chase continues..
GABC is long since removed as an IFanboy favorite. No longer the rapidly paced book it once was and no longer illustrated by fan favorite Cliff Chiang, it is, within a year, a shadow of its former self.
You've got to ask yourself as you read this: should any books premier arc run this long? GABC started out so strong, but since Connor got shot we've done nothing but dawdle, with characterization swaying in the entropy as Winnick tries to define this as a relatively serious book or just a light-hearted jaunt.
Once a book with deep emotional overtones, it now presents itself as a bland murder-mystery with an array of cameos. There was nothing so sweet as the call to Clark when Connor was shot and the quick arrival of Supes, nothing quite as perplexing as the non-chalant attitude of Ollie during the GL cameo and nothing as pointless as the appearance of Plasticman when they thought they'd found Connor (nothing personal against Plasticman).
Fortunately DC's greatest detective is on the case. If it weren't for Bats we'd likely still be on a wild-goose chase across the planet and maybe even the galaxy. Thanx to the Bat's keen intuition a lead has been revealed, albeit an interesting one. It appears that a former enemy/ally of Ollie's, Shado, has been revealed as the mastermind behind the assasination.

This could make things interesting if Winnick steps it up a notch.
Don't get me wrong, GABC isn't a totally bad book. If it were I would have dropped it a long time ago. Winnick may just be developing something bigger than we could have realized yet. I certainly hope so.

Excellent review! I agree with you completely. For me, this book falls into that category of "not good enough to get excited about, but not bad enough to drop." It's an extremely average comic that has it's moments. I liked this issue, and am interested to see where it's going to go. Also, I love Green Arrow, so it's hard to not like this series.
