I didn't want to like this book.
I'm one of those people who can have difficulty separating a writer from his writing and Warren Ellis has, on occasion, said a few things that have annoyed the piss out of me.
Also, my stack is still huge and I was looking forward to the feeling of not having another book to buy.
Unfortunately for me, Warren Ellis is a good writer. I know, I know, big surprise, but it looks like there's no way I'm dropping this book. He's nailed every character on the page (with the possible exception of Armor) and given us a great set-up for how the X-Men operate in San Francisco. This book was fun to read from cover to cover.
It was not, however, a joy to look at. Simone Bianchi's art is annoying in the same way I tend to find Lenil Yu's art annoying. It's messy and, worse, it seems slightly photorealistic, so it's creepy as well. I managed to suffer through this for five or six issues of Wolverine for an interesting story, so I guess I can handle it for as long as this team is together.
