Jonah Hex #33

Review by Diabhol:

Jonah Hex #33

Written by Jimmy Palmiotti and Justin Gray
Art and cover by Darwyn Cooke

Size: 32 Pages

Price: $2.99

So, this is my first time buying (not reading) Jonah Hex. And I'm sorry to say, it wasn't very good.

Oh, Darwyn Cooke's art was fantastic. He always delivers and this issue was no exception. He even gave Jonah Hex a haircut.

But the story was boring as hell. Nearly every word was a chore to read, especially the narration. I haven't read a lot of Jonah Hex, but the issues I have read have all been good. If I were a bigger fan of Westerns, this would be a regular book for me. But this book bored me to tears and I kinda wish I hadn't bought it (though the art is very good) and I'm trying to decide if I'm going to keep it or give it away.

Darwyn Cooke is still the man, though.

read number 32 for what i guess is the common hexperience. blood, violence and anger in a fictionalizaed wild west. this one is not really the norm in terms of jonah hex but i liked the story and the art was glorious.

this was great, longer read than i'm used to well worth $2.99, and who thinks child abuse and icicle being stabbed in someone's eye is boring

Hey, don't get me wrong. I *loved* the action. Every panel was beautiful to behold. There's a reason I bought every issue of The Spirit that Darwyn Cooke did.

I just liked the brat even less the Hex did and having him tell the story was painfully dull.

I think this series is much better when the story is not being told through a journal entry.  When the dialogue and the characters are interacting and driving the story, these issues are money.  This definitely could have been told using a different device and have been a better story.  The art was AMAZING!!  I probably would have given the story higher marks, but it wasn't the best issue ever written.
