Event books often fail because they can't live up to the hype. Expectations for Blackest Night are huge. The best praise I can give for this first issue is that it exceeded any expectations that I had and that were had by the community at large. A difficult task at any time, but even more so when the spotlight is firmly focused on you. Way to go GL team.

oh. my. god. even BETTER than I hoped for. Off the charts, full-on fuckadelic awesome! I have always loved the Hawks but you cannot beat what Johns did to them. Holy shit!
