I don't think I've ever had to say to myself "Okay Cam, get it together, it's a fictional monkey!" But damn if I didn't well up in the eyes.
It feels sort of redundant to review this trade as so much has already been said regarding the series, the issues, the everything...
But I have to, I was just reading the forums and was reminded of Cheers (the show) and more specifically an evening when I saw both the final episode of Cheers and the final episode of Star Trek The next generation. Say what you will about those shows, but for me, they were the TV shows I grew up on and the day I saw both final episodes was a melancholic reminder of so many things. My youth, my friendships, heartbreaks, happy days (dizzying highs and terrifying lows if you will :) ).
This book reminded me of that feeling, for (how many?) years now, I've been following Yorick Brown and his adventures. I remember I found the first issue at a scummy (now closed) comic store in Titusville, Florida while working at the Kennedy space center, and while that doesn't mean much to you, to me it feels like a lifetime ago.
SO, point is, this is less of a review and more of a Thank you to Brian K Vaughan and Pia Guerra. You created something really special that resonates with real human emotion, and I'm proud and honored to have had an opportunity to share with you throughout these 60 issues or 10 trades.
Aaand you made me cry about a monkey. Go figure.

I'm right there with ya. Those damn 2 pages with Yorick and Ampersand in the snowy woods made me tear up quite a bit. Just the way Yorick says "Ah, fuck" and Pia Guerra's rendering of both their facial expressions....f'ing brilliant and utterly heartbreaking. I'm almost starting to cry just thinking about it!
