iFanboy - Episode #58: "Extraordinary Gentlemen"

Alan Moore and Kevin O'Neill's League of Extraordinary Gentlemen is a phenomenal series unlike any other.  The iFanboy team lets you know all about the book, and Josh talks to series artist Kevin O'Neill about his work on the series.

Take several British adventure story characters from the late 19th century, mix them with the great mind in comic book writing, and an exemplary artist, and you get The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. Fans have waited a long time since Volume 2 came out, and were recently treated with the release of The Black Dossier, continuing the story of the mysterious team of adventurers.

As always, iFanboy lets you know what's so good about this book, as well as the basic backgrounds of the characters used and where they come from. There are few books so perfectly tailored to Conor's particular tastes, and despite a downright horrible movie, the guys won't let you miss out on this fantastic bit of storytelling. How could you not want a story with Mr. Hyde, The Invisible Man, and Captain Nemo?

Then, it's off to Jim Hanley's Universe in Manhattan, where Josh talks to Kevin O'Neill about his career as an artist, his work on League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, and what it's really like to be the recipient of a giant script from Alan Moore.

Get ready for some fun, Victorian style. Harumph!

British banter into Rock Band? Fantastic.

O'Neills art on 'Nemesis the Warlock' has to be seen to be believed. Amazing.

Great interview, he seems a real gent.

Looking forward to Top Shelf's 'Marshall Law' omnibus, due next year I believe, save me binding the individual issues. Kev O'Neill & Pat Mills = fantastic comics.

After watching this, I'm convinced that the iFanboy's continuity is even more convoluted than the X-Men's.

Great show guys, I will be picking these up.

Nice mop-top Josh!

Thanks Josh for this interview. It looks like you have Kevin O'Neill up against the wall, though. :-)

Good show, I can't wait to read the Black Dossier.

Anyone else think Josh should do the audio book of The League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen and play all the parts himself.

No Gordon? Kevin O'neil looks like he's going to get Piked with a DC Direct figure. Just kidding. Good work fellas.

And doesn't Ron ROCK OUT!!!

Okay, so I've just finished the second 'traditional' section of The Black Dossier, and...umm...there's no WAY I'm keeping track of all of those names.

I guess it must be like y'all said on the podcast--these names will pay off on a second read, and might have even been mentioned long ago.

Oh, and I'm not daft.  I'm actually an English teacher, so I should be able to keep up with this kind of stuff.  It goes to show you that Alan Moore is either a) a genius, or b) a gimmicky storyteller.  I really hope it's the former.

London comic Shop GOSH! interviewed Kev O'Neill on a number of subjects recently. They are available online (see links below), but I convert this sort of stuff to watch on my i-pod on my commute, thought I might as well share :-
