Smallville - S08E06 - Prey

Excited for the show tonight.  Must get garbage out and dog walked before 9 o'clock! 

 Also, I know Superman doesn't have The BEST ROGUES GALLERY (tm - Batman), but come on, there is no reason to introduce Doomsday unless it's to kill Superman.  That character had one purpose and one purpose only when he was created.  So, I expect that Doomsday will actually play out across the whole season.  Buddy must be doing SOMETHING (sleeping with the producers?) to get himself onto the credit sequence and so far, we havent' really seen it.

Well I'll be damned.  I've only waited since this show began to see this kind of montage of superheroics.  I'm continually shocked at this season! 

 And the Manhunter returns!  Holy CRAP!  This episode is already incredible!

This season should have pulled a Mad Men and jumped a few years into the future, really sell the new direction and start with Clark already set up at the Planet.

When he turns into Doomsday, they should just cut to the final battle from Incredible Hulk and superimpose Clark's head over the Hulk's.  Then a little caption at the bottom that says "(sorry, guys)"

I like the choice of making the Doomsday alter ego a really decent dude who's horrified of what he becomes when he blacks out.  It would be very easy to make him relish the power.

paul, philly is probably going to win this year.  They are probably going to win at home too.  The national guard will most likely have to be called in when this happens.  Philly will ceast to exist in a couple weeks.  You really should pay attention so you know when to either evacuate or when to start building your post appocolyptic vehicle.  There will be a thunderdome built and utilized in Philadelphia, and run by tina turner in few weeks.  Just a heads up man.

I'm not entirely convinced that that's Clark.  The show likes fucking around with us.  It's probably just Alfred.

Ok, so, how good was this episode?  Best episode this season and best of the past two years I think.  They've set this show up for a great season. 

Alfred Pennyworth.  Butler.  Stands in for Batman every few months.  

Came in super late and I wasn't able to catch up to the live broadcast.

I find myself distracted by the problems inherent in moving Clark to Metropolis.  At this point, basically, he IS Superman.  He is already acting as Superman.  He's actually acting more as Superman than the Superman in the comics does.  He's actually more like Samaritan in ASTRO CITY, sacrificing most of his life to play the hero.  The problem is, though, they have painted themselves into a corner.  Clark and John talked about the fact that they had to protect his identity.  He hasn't established a "Clark Kent" persona so how is he going to be Superman?  Everyone has seen his face already.  There really can't be a "Superman" as we know him.  Not with the world they have established here. 

This episode was okay.  I miss the dynamic that Lois brings to the table.  Her spark with Clark brings a bit more life to the show.

John Jones was awesome, though.  Excellent call back to the early days of J'onn J'onzz when he was a police detective.  Also, it was funny when he was talking to Jimmy at the end and a bit of Jackie Chiles came out of Phil Morris.

I like the moral ambiguity in Davis.  If he was truly innocent he would just be a carbon copy of The Hulk.

Also, they were totally fucking with is in the preview.  I"ve seen stills from next week, there's no cape.  Unless it is added in later digitally.

Why does everything in Metropolis happen on the same street?

So even though the Doomsday reminds me a lot of Glory from Buffy Season Five... I dunno, I think this is better than Glory. I hate Glory.

Gotta love the Doomsday shower scene.

Methinks there be a copycat with a cape next episode (prbably falls from the building and Clark has to save him).

Shadow Thief or The Shade

Put this one in the books.  It was another good one.  I agree with everyone that missed Lois. 

I thought the stuff with Davis really fleshed out, no pun intended, his character.  Clarks confrontation with him in the hospital was probably just a taste of what we're going to get later on.  I was intrigued with the "boney eyelids" comment from Jimmy.  I do wonder what it is, if anything that they will show us of Doomsday.  I did get creeped out when Chloe met Davis at the end.  She shouldn't be hanging out with him and I'm glad she realized as much. 

I think Jimmy's quest to find the unseen hero of Metropolis is a nice angle, and apparantly that will be paid off in next weeks episode.  This season has really started off strong and seems to be following a narrative that the show has lacked at times in the past.  I can't wait for next week.  I think this one gets 4 out of 5 speed reads by clark's super eyes, which, by the way was pretty awesome!
